Not taking themselves too seriously is basically a wish I have for every boy group, Kingdom or not! I feel like I havent really watched a lot of their live performances over the past few years. (by ATEEZ), SF9 I also will try to help with as many profiles as I can that have been forgotten or havent been updated in a while! iKON also seem like an odd fit for this show, but they definitely have experience with survival series. SF9 In the end, this was always going to be a popularity contest to some extent. 1. Change), You are commenting using your Facebook account. Damn, I typed a lot. 6. Kind of remarkable how much worse this was compared to Road to Kingdom. I dont imagine were going to see much posturing for BTOB on the show. Plus, the songs pretty good! I agree with the rest of the comments the other groups being the same old, same old. For the expert and peer votes, it was revea. I think it would be good to change things up for at least one episode. All Rights Reserved. I feel like they are the real winners of Kingdom this yearkinda like OhMyGirl and Queendom. I have my ranking. What do you want to do? Ateez comes last unfortunately because their choice of remixing heavy sounds did not showcase what their song Wave actually portrays. 3rd place: Ateez 6,101.043 points Explosively. Am I the only one that just really really really misses Queendom? Gone are the illusions of an early night. Im not sure what this has to do with anything, but they discuss their song and how it shows how real they are as a band. ? I thought this performance was really cool. We need an editor. It just looked very well made in my opinion, and Im so happy theyre done with this show. My own choice for winner is BTOB because this show made me care about them, a lot. The choreography was on point as usual, even if the mix didnt really do the song any favors. The language was Korean. If there was an audience, they could have hyped up the crowd and really did their things, but they chose to just dance which happens to be their weakest area. Its suddenly all over idol variety. I really want mnet to at least have a limited audience outdoor or something follow COVID restrictions. I think thats what makes stage more interesting to watch. Im not sure the heavy remix was the best choice for this song, and I thought the whole bleeding effect was a little cheesy. I dont have many posts but I will hopefully have more in the future! Honestly, dont think I will watch all the final stages anytime soon, but by the onesie and twosie over the coming weeks. Theyll all likely make comebacks within the next one to three months, and Im eager to see if they stick with their pre-Kingdom trajectory or try something new. Its also a track that naturally lends itself to remixes, and I thought the percussive mix here was really cool. According to me iKON is definitely up for 1st place without a doubt. Some people were like oh, their vocals were off, but I like to hear them struggle tbh. Hey, Im Audrey! 3rd place: THE BOYZ 1,833.333 points (1,000 + 833.333) As previously announced, the Kingdom contestants will be awarded points over the course of the competition based on the following criteria: votes by the six competing groups (25 percent), evaluations by a panel of 30 experts (25 percent), domestic and global fan votes (40 percent), and video view count (10 percent). I am guessing something like this: Haha not Mnet, but Im already planning to watch that new JYP/PSY show (mostly because I find those two so entertaining). But the results of the self-evaluation vote had surprised members and the viewers. Im sorry but wouldnt the other 4 groups with choreo feel embarasssed after seeing ateez perform live with that level of choreo only to lip synch for their lives? And ooh, WolfgangI was not feeling the staging or the concept choice. I scrubbed through the parts that bored me and I dont think I missed anything substantive lol. (LogOut/ The stray kids x the boyz x ateez inter-group friendship was also very funny to watch, heres to more of such interactions in the future! I also really loved the miroh remix (kinda needed that after like 3000 listens of the original) and they are looking as solid as ever. 3rd place: BTOB 540,621 votes The guys are always way too damn serious. At ease (iKon): iKon and YG just wasnt made for Kingdom. As with all the groups, I think their Kingdom run has been hit or miss, but generally on the strong side. To express my gratitude to this program i quote Junhoe message to Kingdom ( who was for me absolute star in this last episode) Thank you brat. Youd think these guys would be the underdogs of the show, based on the fact that they qualified for Road to Kingdom, but in the time between the two series, their sales have skyrocketed. And though Kingdom Come is one of my favorite songs of this round, I think it deserved a more inventive concept. From the beginning with Hwiyoung-Taeyang dance to the human tree to the Youngbin-Chani dance to Taeyangs spins. Part of me wonders how much time is left for the groupI really enjoyed the Why Why Why come back so I would be disappointed if Kingdom was one of their last big activities. Mnet's " Kingdom: Legendary War " has unveiled the full results from Round 2! Here is the current overall ranking of the team with the combination of the points from the 100 sec. They worked really hard and gave some killer performances. Beyond that I just want to say I feel sorry for you, Nick, forcing yourself to watch this whole thing live as it airs. Please do respect the time and effort the author put in compiling this profile. If I understood Hongjoong correctly, The Real is actually an old song they dug out from the vault. Again, they would have done a lot better with a live audience. Comparing this episode to the debut of Road to Kingdom a year ago, I cant help but feel a little underwhelmed. document.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() ); This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. The Boyz ATEEZ The Boyz love playing on the theme of Kingdom, and elements of this can grow a bit stale. I love watching groups actually enjoy their stages. I would love to hear their voices more. 5th place: iKon 3,669.811 points ATEEZ Of course, that would never happen (and for good reason!). PS. The hosts are the K-Pop male duo, TVXQ. Views will only be counted for the first three days after the full versions of performances are released on Mnet's official YouTube channel. Theyre such an odd fit for the show, but Im curious to see how they will do against these younger, edgier groups. The performance stood out because of its focus on vocals, but the group is missing some of those key vocalists. However, Im still eager to learn more about these guys, and I hope theyre able to push themselves and explore new sides to their music. I listened to it a few days ago and it sounded fine, but a lot like all the others. The Kings Voice song, if Im not mistaken is actually a song for Kingdom (not a cover). Lets not lose hope and enjoy their performances more even if the ranking keeps on being that way (typical Msnake). I tried to search for the song title on Melon and there was a song with the name but different lyrics. The order these days is visuals > dance > vocals , and that is unfortunate. None were bad by any means, they just werent over the top or something unexpected. The song built to a rousing, shout-along finale. The Boyz debuted on December 6th, 2017, under Cre.Ker Entertainment. And it was so cool to see all the boys shouting the groups name after the performance was over. Im glad that this show ended already, because of stress and mess for the fan bases. Why film for 30+ consecutive hours?? BTOB 3. Finale (BTOB): (Almost a tie for first personally) Amazing, touching, just good song, good vibes. They performed the song so well. 4. Darling daughter handed in her final essay for one class at 11:15pm, and the deadline was midnight. At some points falling backwards isnt that interesting anymore and neither is this Im so cool grrr *stomp* *stomp*. Other Recaps: Episode One // Episode Two // Episode Three // Episode Four // Episode Five // Episode Six // Episode Seven // Episode Eight 'NO LIMIT' ROUND It felt like a knockoff and less impactful version of the Mayfly Wolf stage. How is that even explainable? They got to try new things and cant rely too much on stunts. The six groups will compete against each other and release music on streaming sites simultaneously. The remix isnt bad, but I didnt like the blood part (cuz ew wtf) and the Hakuna Matata part. For the second half . Isnt it a bit impressive or do they really think were not good enough?. Only then, we can have a plethora of songs with large vocal ranges. There were a number of creative set pieces, and I loved when they brought the kids on for the finale. I hated how the voting was traded strictly between the groups for a few of the rounds last year. Last years Road to Kingdom was a bumpy road for sure, with one particular pothole that still has me feeling PTSD. The Boyz have been very up-and-down throughout Kingdom a completely different experience from their consistent dominance on Road to Kingdom. Also, I dont get why boy groups these days thinks theatrical=halloween all the time. The remixes were eh for the most part. You cant start at eleven and stay there the entire time. I loved the ballet section during the climax. For Part 1 of this round, 33 special judges are invited to judge the performances and each will have 1 vote. Now overall it just seems like nowdays kpop groups doing performances with more money. SKZ is really known for their dark concept which was also a good introduction stage for their group. I just didnt really connect with wolfgang. They were the only one that was so smooth and they definitely had fun in that performance. Can anyone help me out here? Meanwhile, THE BOYZ took third place in the expert judges evaluations and fourth place in the contestants votes. I loved the human sculpture that marked the mid-point of this performance, but other than that there wasnt a lot of imagery that stuck with me. The song sounded better alongside a performance, but coming after last weeks triumphant Move, the finished product felt a little underwhelming. Sadly iKON came last, just because of some knetz and their hate for YGE for no apparant reason. Id love to see a series where idols spoke about what they honestly thought about their and others music. Its all about playing with momentum and energy in performances like this. I dont know what you mean? 1st place: Mayfly: Jongho (Ateez), Eunkwang (BtoB), Seungmin (Stray Kids) Introduction Stage: 100 second performance of a song that won a Music Show (Ep. Unsurprisingly, BTOB are seasoned enough to simply turn the whole thing into a joke. I was really looking forward to The Boyzs stage as their track was my favorite. Performing without Mingi is always going to be hard. 1- Stray Kids 2- ATEEZ 3- BTOB 4- iKON 5- THE BOYZ 6- SF9 Round 3 "No Limit" also started and the result of the first unit battle is out. I loved their classic sense of showmanship. I always wonder how many treasures idols, agencies and producers have lying around. 2nd place: The Boyz 573,026 votes ATEEZ And, Wave relies on his deep tone for much of its impact. iKons performance is what I liked best because they showed their color as a group where they dont need to change their typical performance style to show something different especially that this is a group introduction stage. However, two things to note about skz. They debuted on September 15th, 2015 under YG Entertainment. It was well-staged, with fun use of props that gave a lighter-than-expected vibe to a stage I assumed would be nothing more than puffed-up chests and general badassery. Lets also root for all the groups to give fans their best performance! Ive gotta say, Im a little surprised The Boyz managed to take the top spot. The dance was good, but they really should have sang and rapped live. But, the lack of strong staging bumps this down a notch. I always enjoyed they never lipsyncd his parts but rather Hongjoon interpreted those moments his own way. i have my feelings about this, but mostly im just happy because i enjoyed the interactions and seungmins shine time throughout kingdoms run (plus skz won and theyre one of my favourite groups ever so) but like you said i really am excited to see where theyll go from here (and on a different note, i cant wait for hyunjin to return because as much as I enjoyed the amount of center time felix and minho finally got in his absence, he is a very significant part of this group so one can only hope that they keep up giving all the members of their dance line shine time as well as their vocalists), Also when they talked about changmins marriage??!!! MNET was the network partner of the show. SF9 Really, if you didnt know the groups and the songs, how could you tell them apart? SF9 (zero votes from the competing teams, poor things!) 2nd place: SF9 2,136.015 points (747.126 + 1,388.889) Mnets Kingdom: Legendary War has wrapped up its first official round of competition! Expressively. With that said, this was barely Wave at all. I just cant get into this song. They came to life and their energy was just so unreal. Im happy to hear them in any venue, survival show or not. Stray Kids are next, and all I can think about is that cruel debut show they suffered through with JYP. Incorporating hip hop gentlemen was also dope which reminded fans that YGe swag aint dead yet. That said, the remixes all sucked compared to the original songs. They spent a lot of time in that (admittedly cool) prismatic tunnel! But, Im actually enjoying this one because Im breaking it up in chunks and taking my time watching it without the pressure of staying totally up to date. I mean, dont get me wrong. Check back frequently for new reviews and commentary on everything K-Pop! As announced last week, the theme for the battle was To The World, and the competing groups were tasked with remixing one of their songs to put on a performance that they wanted to show to the world.. Thats not to take away from Stray Kids, who are immensely talented and delivered some great performances as part of this series. If youre curious, you can read what I thought about them here. Imitation and Kingdom definitely have to help their domestic popularity and the prospect of Mingi returning will be epic hahaha. I also give a good point to ATEEZ for singing live (even though I also need to immediately cancel my decision : why would you say Hakuna Matata so seriously ?). Han takes his break alone, learning how to make coffee. I was wondering if they would edit Yunho completely out of this episode, and Im glad they didnt. They were formed through the survival reality show, Stray Kids. Im curious to what their next comeback is gonna be like and what life after Kingdom is going to be like. Props are used to make a performance more interesting, obviously, and that metal incorporation is also not new to JYPe groups so their overall performance was well-thought of though they should be more careful with their stunts. why some people seems to hate props, stunts, theatrical performance? I have no idea how Ikon ranked so low either because like you said, I thought they were very big globally. Feel free to comment below if you have any information to add. 1. This segment ends where most Korean variety does: at the grill, stuffing mouths with meat. And now, the prospect of staying Up All Night to chroniclethis three hour swagger-a-thon will see my usual grasp of the English language devolve into incomprehensible eieios and illa illas. As for Kingdom as a whole? I did not expect edgy Wave to sound so good. The ranking from the experts' votes was released first followed by the votes from the self-evaluation. Hopefully, things get better from now on, and they find an excuse to allow Changmin to do a solo vocal stage. But I like how they did it all with so much passion/energy. Im also looking forward to Skz and Tbz CB since its been 9 months since their last CB, I am just happy to see SF9 be considered for their talents not just their looks and acting etc. But I really liked how they were so passionate, told a clear story, and sang live. Other Recaps: Episode One // Episode Two // Episode Three // Episode Four // Episode Five // Episode Six // Episode Seven // Episode Eight // Episode Nine. Right before a clip package that introduces them yet again. I hope Kingdom doesnt fall into this trap, but the meet-greet performances were disappointing. The two results make 50% of the score for Round 1. SF9 You know how MNET works so it isnt new nor surprising for them to treat all the groups equally. SF9 iKON consists of 6 members: Bobby, Jay, Ju-ne, Song, DK and Chan. All the pre-recorded stuff really took the momentum out of the performance, unfortunately. For example, many groups explore the rock concept but no one can make the sounds that is characteristic to the genre. After THE BOYZ, iKON, and BTOB kicked off the competition in last weeks episode, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, and SF9 took the stage for their own electrifying performances this week. Ive seen a lot of masks and creepy contacts in K-pop already. They debuted on October 24th, 2018, under KQ Entertainment.
